SINGAPORE CHINATOWN HERITAGE BRANDS  Tucked in a corner of this tiny Island is the oldest ethnic district with over a hundred years of history. Much about Chinatown has since experienced a dramatic makeover. The relentless effort to uphold the religious and individual family traditions passed down for generations is the only thing that remains unchanged. From Chinese medicinal halls to jewellers, from teahouses to eateries, each family-run business has a story to tell bound to draw you in till the end. Every shop has come a long way; from their humble beginnings to a trademark brand familiar to all. When strong traditional values fuse with constantly upgraded marketing strategies, it is no wonder these heritage brands are popular with both locals and foreign visitors. Chinatown Business Association initiated the idea of introducing these heritage brands to visitors, to highlight the rich Chinese cultural heritage and attractiveness of these long established heritage brand names. To kick start this initiative, Chinatown Business Association has published a booklet featuring a total of 26 renowned brand names in Chinatown. To be eligible as a heritage brand, the brand must have its establishment in Chinatown for at least 30 years and still be in operation in Chinatown today.
